For Immediate Release

SAN FRANCISCO, May 14, 2010 – The Department of Elections has increased the number of polling places citywide in preparation for the upcoming June 8 Consolidated Statewide Direct Primary Election. There will be over 150 more polling places than the November 2009 Municipal Election, and this increase means many voters will have new voting destinations on Election Day.

Voters are reminded to check the back cover of their Voter Information Pamphlet for the address of their polling place. The address is located on the upper left portion of the back cover, along with accessibility information for that site. Voters can also find this information on the Department’s website at www.sfelections.org

At sites that are no longer being used as polling places, or sites that formerly held consolidated polling places which have since been split, the Department of Elections will post “Change of Polling Place” signs on Election Day. The signs provide directions on detachable sheets of paper, which include the address, cross-streets and accessibility information of the new polling place.

If a polling place becomes unavailable after the Voter Information Pamphlet has been mailed, the Department notifies all registered voters within the affected precinct. A notification postcard is sent to inform these voters of the new location’s address, cross-streets and accessibility information. For further information, please visit the Department of Elections’ website at www.sfelections.org or call (415) 554-4375.
